About CWH
Columbus Warrior Hockey is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides veterans with meaningful peer-based support networks, encourages a healthier lifestyle through physical activity, and offers a therapeutic experience that contributes to both mental and physical healing through the sport of hockey. By combining physical activity with a strong sense of community, we provide veterans with a positive and empowering path to manage the mental and physical health challenges they may face following their service. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where veterans can grow, recover, and thrive—both on and off the ice.
Program Scope
Columbus Warrior Hockey’s approach to accomplishing our mission is unique in that we supplement our disabled hockey program with community based activities that incorporate other military-connected individuals. In furtherance of its primary mission, Columbus Warrior Hockey extends participation eligibility to individuals such as current service members and gold star family members for participation in our Chiller Adult Hockey League teams, “stick & puck” sessions, and drop-in hockey sessions. This blending of veterans, current service members, and family members creates a continuum of support that serves to create a lasting positive impact to our local veterans.
Disabled Hockey
USA Hockey Alignment
The disabled hockey pillar focuses on disabled veterans and activities pertaining to USA Hockey’s Warrior Hockey which is a discipline of disabled hockey. This includes participation in USA Hockey sanctioned events such as the Warrior Classic and Warrior Nationals. In addition to this, the Warrior Hockey team will have opportunities to participate in and host events with other Warrior organizations such as tournaments and exhibition games.
Veterans Hockey
Local Initiatives
The veterans hockey pillar focuses on improving the lives of veterans, service members, and gold star families in the greater Columbus area. CWH leverages the existing adult recreational hockey program hosted by The OhioHealth Chiller rinks to create opportunities to establish meaningful peer-based support networks, develop a healthier lifestyle through physical activity, and heal from trauma through the sport of hockey.
