USA Hockey Coaching Requirements
In order to ensure a safe season USA Hockey requires Coaches and Volunteers to complete certain training modules. These requirements are outlined below:
Head Coach
A head coach must:
- Register with USA Hockey as a coach AND complete all training requirements (disabled clinic -- coaching level 1 – at a minimum) as well as the online module
- Complete SafeSport
- Complete USA Hockey background check.
Team Manager
A team manager must:
- Register with USA Hockey as a volunteer
- Complete the background check if over 18 years of age
- Complete SafeSport if around players under 18 years of age
Off Ice Volunteer
An Off-Ice Volunteers Must:
- Register with USA Hockey as a volunteer
- Complete the background check if over 18 years of age and --- on a frequent basis --- going into the locker room
Assistant Coach
An Assistant Coach must:
- Register with USA Hockey as a coach AND complete all training requirements Assistant Coaches are strongly encouraged - but not required - to attend the disabled clinic and complete the online module
- Complete SafeSport
- Complete USA Hockey background check.
On Ice Volunteer
An on-ice volunteer must:
- Register with USA Hockey as a volunteer - Strongly encouraged - but not required - to attend the disabled clinic and complete the online module
- Complete the background check if over 18 years of age
- Complete SafeSport if around players under 18 years of age
Additional Info
*A SafeSport Module is required annually – MUST BE taken the same month as the prior
season
*A background check is good for two full seasons
